Gunpowder College Recruitment Program
For many young athletes, playing college lacrosse feels like a dream reserved for only the elite few.
The truth? There are more opportunities than most families realize.
Since 2021, we've helped more than 60 athletes achieve their goal of playing college lacrosse, guiding them to programs across NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III, NJCAA, and MCLA. While every recruiting journey looks different, one thing remains the same, families who understand the process early put themselves in the best position for success.
Recruiting Starts Long Before Recruiting
One of the biggest misconceptions about college recruiting is that it begins during an athlete's junior or senior year. In reality, recruiting starts much earlier now.
Long before coaches begin making phone calls, they're watching athletes develop. They're looking for players who consistently improve, compete against strong competition, demonstrate coachability, communicate well, and perform when it matters most.
That's why we believe recruiting doesn't begin with emails.
It begins with habits.
It begins with confidence.
It begins with development.
By the time coaches are actively recruiting, years of preparation have already taken place.
More Opportunities Than Ever Before
College lacrosse continues to grow across the country. Today there are nearly 400 men's college lacrosse programs and more than 550 women's programs competing across the NCAA, in addition to junior college, NAIA, and nationally competitive club programs.
That means there truly is a place for athletes of many different skill levels.
The goal isn't simply to play college lacrosse.
The goal is to find the right fit; athletically, academically, socially, and financially.
How We Help Families
The recruiting process can be overwhelming.
When should you create a highlight video?
When should you contact coaches?
Which showcases actually matter?
How do scholarships really work?
What level fits your athlete best?
These are questions we answer every year.
As part of our program, families receive guidance throughout the recruiting journey, including:
- A complimentary SportsRecruits recruiting profile
- Recruiting education for both athletes and parents
- Highlight video guidance and feedback
- Coach communication strategies
- Timeline planning and recruiting milestones
- Resources to explore every level of college lacrosse
- Personalized advice on identifying schools that are the right athletic and academic fit
We believe informed families make better recruiting decisions.
Understanding the Different Levels
One of the biggest mistakes families make is focusing on one division instead of the best opportunity. Every level offers incredible experiences.
Division I features the highest level of competition and the largest time commitment.
Division II provides outstanding competition while offering athletic scholarship opportunities.
Division III offers exceptional academics and highly competitive lacrosse, with financial aid often replacing athletic scholarships.
NJCAA and NAIA programs can provide outstanding opportunities and pathways to four-year institutions.
MCLA and club lacrosse continue to grow, giving athletes the chance to compete nationally while enjoying a balanced college experience.
Success isn't measured by the division. Success is finding the program where an athlete can thrive.
The Recruiting Journey
Every athlete's path is unique, but preparation is always the common denominator.
We help athletes:
- Build recruiting profiles that stand out
- Create effective highlight videos
- Learn how and when to communicate with college coaches
- Understand NCAA eligibility requirements
- Stay organized with important recruiting timelines
- Explore scholarship and financial aid opportunities
- Find schools that fit both academically and athletically
Our goal isn't simply to help athletes get recruited.
Our goal is to help them find the right college experience.
Understanding Scholarships
Scholarships are often one of the most misunderstood parts of college recruiting.
Unlike football or basketball, lacrosse scholarships are typically divided among multiple athletes, meaning many players receive partial athletic scholarships that are combined with academic scholarships, grants, and financial aid.
Understanding how this works can make a tremendous difference when evaluating college opportunities.
Our Mission
Playing college lacrosse isn't just about talent.
It's about preparation.
It's about making informed decisions.
It's about finding coaches who believe in you and a college that feels like home.
We're proud to have helped more than 60 athletes commit to college programs since 2021, and we're even more excited about helping the next generation of players achieve their goals.
Whether your athlete dreams of Division I, Division III, junior college, or a nationally competitive club program, we're here to guide your family every step of the way.
Because every athlete deserves the opportunity to discover where the game can take them.
